In this video you will learn about the big five personality traits model. Personality is the sum total of ways in which an individual reacts to and interacts with others. It refers to individual differences in patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. Most often it is described in terms of measurable traits that a person shows such as aggressive, submissive, shy, lazy, timid, loyal, and ambitious. There are many determinants of personality including heredity, environmental factors and age.
When a person's personality doesn't fit the job, everyone loses. Not only will they be unhappy with their unsuitability for the position, but the organization will also suffer from increased absenteeism, low productivity, conflict with other co-workers, and loss of any investment in training when that person leaves.
Here are The Big Five Personality Traits Model that measures the five key dimensions of people's personalities.
  • Extrovert/ Introvert: is your level of sociability. Are you outgoing or quiet?
  • Agreeableness: is your level of friendliness and showing compassion to others.
  • Conscientiousness: is a key ingredient in success. It measures your level of care that you take in your life and work, for example, if you set and keep long-range goals. If you score high in conscientiousness, you are organized and you know how to plan and follow your plan. If you score low, you're likely to be disorganized.
  • Emotional Stability: measures your level of emotions. It refers to your ability to remain calm or even well balanced when faced with pressure or stress.
  • Openness to Experience: measures your level of creativity, and your desire for knowledge and new experiences.
Understanding these dimensions will allow you to better understand what roles fit you best. You will be able to hire an employee who will perfectly fit the position that you're trying to fill.
Remember, a beautiful appearance will last a few decades, but a beautiful personality will last a life time.

"Always dream and shoot higher than you know you can do. Do not bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself.” William Faulkner
